Describe:

Perennial herb, 50-80 cm tall. Double tuberous roots, when branched, the outer skin is pale yellow. Leaves have almost no petioles. The lower leaves either grow opposite or in whorls of 3-4. The leaf blade is ovoid, with large serrated edges. The upper leaves are small, sometimes alternate. Flowers grow singly or in sparse clusters. Long green, wide bell-shaped, with 5 lobes on the edge. The bell-shaped corolla is purple-blue or white. The fruit is inverted ovoid. Flowers from May to August. Fruits from July to September.

Distribution: Platycodon grandiflorum has been grown for a long time in China, then introduced to India. The plant was imported to Vietnam about 40 years ago.

Parts used: The roots are dug up in winter, when the tree is dying. For trees that have been planted for two years (highlands) or one year (lowlands), remove charcoal, leaves, and small roots, and wash away sand and dirt. Scrape off the outer layer and dry in the sun or with a dryer.

Chemical composition:

The main chemical components of Platycodon grandiflorum are platycodin A, C, D, D2 . The sapogenins are platycodigenin and polygalactic acid.

In addition, Platycodon grandiflorum also contains phytosterols and a significant amount of tannins.

Prescription:
